Bumble is a dating app that encourages women to make the first move in a dating scene. Unlike other dating apps, women are required to make the first move when the users of the opposite sex has matched! The success of the Bumble brings Whitney to becoming a tech billionaire.

Here are three intriguing facts about Whitney Wolfe with Bumble that you should know!

The Awards

By building Bumble, Whitney became the youngest female CEO that takes a company public in the US! What also surprises us is the fact that merely two of the more than 500 companies in the US that have gone public were founded by women in the past years.

Whitney also became the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire with the app debut trading, the shares of Bumble rising nearly 70%. Even though there must be a lot of factors that contributed to her success, Whitney stated that not taking yourself ‘too seriously’ is the key to becoming an effective chief executive. Whitney also stated that W\work/life balance and making the time for her family are also important.

How it all started…

Talking about dating apps, what’s the first app that appeared in your head? Well, Tinder did come up in our mind and apparently, Whitney Wolfe was once one of the founding team at Tinder. The tension she had with one other executive led her to leave the company and started her own dating app.

But, Whitney has a profound problem that became the reason behind Bumble.

“When I founded Bumble, it was because I saw a problem I wanted to help solve. It was 2014, but so many of the smart, wonderful women in my life were still waiting around for men to ask them out, to take their numbers, or to start up a conversation on a dating app. For all the advances women had been making in workplaces and corridors of power, the gender dynamics of dating and romance still seemed so outdated. I thought, what if I could flip that on its head? What if women made the first move, and sent the first message?”

Bumble represents an encouragement for women to take action in a relationship, regardless of gender. It’s an important movement to show that women are not only the passive party in a relationship.

Her Past

Behind the success she has with Bumble, Whitney was in an abusive relationship as a teenager. Whitney shared that the experience had “stripped her down to nothing.” But, from the experience, she also sensed the issue in gender dynamics.

Instead of drowning in the past, Whitney is bold to bring the past in the past,

“I don’t need to justify myself any more,”

Well, she even could promote one of relationship issues through Bumble as its slogan states,

“ Make your first move”
