The Miss Universe competition was held on Sunday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, after being postponed for more than a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The competition was co-hosted by Mario Lopez and former Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, who won the crown in 2012 and featured a special performance by Luis Fonsi. The pageant had 74 beauty queens from many countries and territories, however, only 21 contestants qualified to the final round. After competing in the swimsuit category, 10 moved on to compete in the evening gown competition. Five contestants were selected to participate in the question and answer round.
Andrea Meza from Mexico is the reigning Miss Universe 2020, besting contestants from 74 other women representing their nationalities and territories, including first runner-up, Miss Brazil Julia Gama, and second runner-up, Miss Peru Janick Maceta Del Castillo. She was presented the crown by her successor, Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, who won the pageant in 2019. The Miss Universe pageant was last held in 2019, when Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, took home the top prize. Miss Puerto Rico, Madison Anderson, as the first runner-up, and Miss Mexico Sofa Aragon, as the second runner-up.

Has A Degree In Software Engineering
Andrea Meza is a multi-talented woman with a degree in software engineering and a certified make-up artist and model. Meza enrolled in the Autonomous University of Chihuahua and majored in software engineering. She graduated with her degree in 2017 and began working as a software engineer in Mexico in addition to her modeling career. As if she wasn’t already busy, she is the official tourism brand ambassador for her hometown of Chihuahua City.
A Women’s Rights Activist
Andrea Meza has been collaborating closely with the Municipal Institute for Women (INMUJERES), an organization dedicated to putting an end to gender-based violence. According to UNESCO, INMUJERES supports and encourages non-discrimination conditions, gender equality of opportunity and treatment, the implementation of women’s rights, and equal participation in the country’s political, cultural, economic, and social life. Andrea is also a member of the International Association of Charities, which raises funds in India, Indonesia, and China for the oppressed.
Believes in Body Positivity
In the final round, Andrea got the topic of changing beauty standards and the answers she gave were very inspiring. She stated that today’s society has advanced. However, when society is more advanced, the stereotypes that exist in society are also getting more advanced. Then she continued, “Nowadays beauty isn’t only the way we look. For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirits but in our hearts and the way we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you that you are not valuable.”
A Healthy Lifestyle
According to Miss Universe, one of her main passions is to live a healthy lifestyle, with the Mexican consuming vegan and participating in several extreme sports such as rappelling and sandboarding. Andrea has been a vegan and it started from his concern for the welfare of the world and animals. Andrea also joins CrossFit. Another interesting fact about her is that she can maintain a plank for three minutes! In the near future, she also will have a sportswear brand called Andrea Meza Activewear which will be launched soon.
What’s Next for Andrea Meza?
According to the Miss Universe Organization, Andrea will be making the move from Chihuahua to New York City to carry out her responsibilities as Miss Universe 2020. This involves a lengthy press tour and media appearances. Andrea will also “represent the brand and several philanthropic organizations throughout her reign.”
As she prepares to promote her platform, Meza hopes that her experience will inspire women and young girls to embrace their imperfections, flaws, and “enjoy the ride”. She believes that the most essential thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership, which has been neglected in women and young girls for a long time.
